EMPOWERING WOMEN IN TECH:(building Robust web application with Django)
The tech industry's pervasive gender gap continues to pose a significant challenge in our digitally driven world. Aba city took a bold stride towards equality with the launch of the Django Girls workshop for the secound time, a collaborative effort between Python Abia Community, Python Software Foundation, and Ashpot. Held on October 26-27th september 2024. This impactful event aimed to unleash the potential of young girls in web development, paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse tech landscape.
WHATS DJANGO GIRLS ALL ABOUT:Django stands out as a leading Python framework for web development, enabling developers to build robust and scalable websites.
At its core, Django Girls constitutes a vanguard movement bridging the digital divide, offering an inclusive platform for women and underrepresented groups to acquire expertise in Django, a cutting-edge Python web framework.
The objective of the event is to cultivate and nurture.
Transnational Network:As a worldwide community, Django Girls workshops connect participants with like-minded individuals, fostering a global network of tech enthusiasts.
collaborative Learning Hub:Django Girls Workshops foster an egalitarian and hospitable atmosphere, prioritizing opportunities for women and underrepresented groups who may lack prior programming experience. These workshops intentionally cultivate a sense of belonging, ensuring accessibility for diverse individuals.
Immersive Learning experience:Participants engage in experiential learning, acquiring web development skills from scratch using Python, Django, HTML, and CSS. Interactive coding exercises facilitate the creation of functional web projects, solidifying knowledge through practical application.
THE DJANGO GIRLS ABA 2024
DAY 1:
INSTALLATON PARTY: which was held a day before the main event,the installation party is a precursor to the main workshop,designed to help attendees install necessary software like( python,Django,viscode,git e.t.c) also help the attendees setup their development environment,meet coaches and fellow participant and get familiar with workshop format and also ensures everyone starts the workshop on the same pages and build excitement for the main event .
DAY 2:
The main event took place on 27th of october,2024. A day of unparalleled potential dawned, An esteemed cohort of 7 coaches, comprising 1 facilitator providing systematic instructions.
Offering personalized guidance, established the foundation for an enriching and efficacious experience.
The proceedings commenced at 8 am with a delectable breakfast thoughtfully designed to foster a sense of community and belonging among participants. A selection of invigorating beverages, including tea, toasted bread and egg, generated a warm and inclusive environment ideal for knowledge acquisition.

- Django admin: Deploy and share your web application
- Django URLS:Mastering URL Routing for Efficient Navigation and Understanding URL Management for Seamless Page Transitions

- Introduction to HTML: The language for building websites
- Django ORM:Simplifying database interactions.
- Dynamic data in template:"Update template content automatically with dynamic data.
- CSS:Enhance web design with Cascading Style Sheets
- Templates extending:Modify and add to existing templates to make them your own."
- Extend your application:Enhance your software's capabilities by adding new features, functionality, or integrations to improve performance and user experience.
- Django forms: Form Design and Management for Optimal User Interface.
The workshop's primary objective was to empower participants to design and deploy a complete, operational website , publicly accessible online. Interactive activities throughout the day reinforced theoretical foundations, enabling attendees to translate knowledge into actionable skills. Comprehensive exercises ensured attendees mastered theoretical principles and acquired practical expertise.
Launch and photo activation :Time to refuel! From 1 pm to 2 pm, participants took a break and enjoyed a tasty lunch spread - jollof rice, fried rice, chicken, and salad. It was the perfect chance to relax, socialize, and gear up for the rest of the day.
The debut Django Girls workshop in Aba proved to be a seminal experience, poised to recalibrate the technological trajectory of the region. By convening a diverse assembly of 36 aspiring young women, supplemented by the active engagement of 3 young men, the workshop fostered a pedagogical setting characterized by its nurturing atmosphere.
The unwavering commitment of the eight coaches,and the experiential learning approach had a profound and lasting impact on all participants. By the workshop's conclusion, these young women had not only attained invaluable web development expertise but also internalized the conviction that gender-based prejudices have no place in the technological sphere.
The Django Girls Aba workshop was a resounding win, paving the way for inclusive tech growth. This milestone showcased women's tech potential and boosted diversity. Participants gained valuable skills, memories, and empowerment. The event's impact will be felt for years, sparking a chain reaction.
